Wedding Dress Fashion Illustrations

Fashion illustration is a way of communicating fashion ideas using illustration, drawing, and painting. The art of fashion illustration has been practiced since clothes have been in existence to translate an idea or image into a garment. It was made particularly popular during the early to mid 1900’s with the influence of René Gruau, renowned fashion illustrator. Gruau’s was the top illustrator during the haute couture era in the 1940’s and 50’s. (Read more about haute couture).

As Vancouver’s first haute couture bridal store, La Novia Bridal has chosen to recreate the tradition of fashion illustration during the production of our bridal gowns. Gruau illustrations represented the most popular designs and he served as the artistic director for Dior’s renowned 1947, “New Look”. Our illustrations represent our designs which are unique and one of a kind, designed at the Jason Matlo atelier, a local couture design house. The illustrations show off the concept behind each dress as well as the unique details providing brides with the opportunity to see the transformation of an idea into the creation of their wedding dress.

Bridal Gown Illustrations Today

Although today, advertisements in fashion magazines have replaced illustrations with photography, illustrations still have a prominent role among top designers in the world of haute couture. Besides showing a representation of a design or garment, fashion illustrations also serve as a form of art. Because each of our wedding dresses is a work of art and our wedding dress store is our gallery to display them, our illustrations are used to show off the amount of effort and thought that goes into creating each wedding dress. Brides may also purchase the illustration of their bridal gown as keepsake to compliment the gown.
